Slow Dance

This is a poem that was written by a teenaged girl who was dying of cancer. I think it has positive implications for all of us.

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You'd better slow down. Don't dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won't last.

Do you run through each day on the fly?
When you ask, "How are you?" do you hear the reply?

When the day is done do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores running through your head?

You'd better slow down. Don't dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won't last.

Ever told your child, "We'll do it tomorrow"
And in your haste not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time to call and say 'Hi'?

You'd better slow down. Don't dance so fast.
Time is short. The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift -- thrown away.

Life is not a race. Do take it slower.
Hear the music before the song is over.

That's lovely and I wish I could take it to heart and just enjoy life more. I've come very close to death a few times. Last year the doctors said that I should have been dead. Afterwards, instead of feeling like I should slow down I felt in a panic to do more and to work harder with the extra days that God has given me.

Tammy, I was hoping that you would have the time to catch this post!

We all have our own 'crosses to bear', do we not?

Personally, I wonder if she w/could have chosen to write the same lines if she had children (as you and I both do).

Not a single one of us, Tammy, should even TRY to assume or even aspire or attempt to "walk in another's shoes" ... ... we are NOT in the other's shoes!!

I thank you for your comment, and God bless. May He continue to hold you closely in His arms and keep and sustain you.

What beautiful words.

"When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there."

I especially love this stanza. I don't slow down enough, and half of the fun IS getting there. Even if one can't SLOW DOWN, one can at least BE IN THE MOMENT. Today that is what I will do!

This poem was sent to me yesterday in an e-mail. I just couldn't WAIT to post it and share it with all of you.

I don't even know the girl's name to give her credit.

She gave us all a great gift, didn't she? Such beautiful thoughts, and so well put together.

Truly inspirational!
