Fun with word games ... #6

These have been cluttering up my tabletop and desk, so I thought I'd spread a little of the 'wealth' around. Maybe you'll find one or two of interest.

Crostic Puzzles ...

Organized crime is a blight on our nation. While many young Americans are lured into a career of crime by its promise of an easy life, most criminals actually must work long hours - frequently in buildings without air-conditioning. ~ Allen, "A Look at Organized Crime"

French adventurers on the Mississippi River came upon a tall red post apparently used to mark the boundary between the hunting grounds of two Indian tribes. Today, a large city stands on the very spot ... Louisiana's Baton Rouge, French for red stick. ~ R Dempewolff, "Why Call it That?"

Bats can see, though not so well as other mammals. The bat emits high-pitched sound waves which are reflected back from any object they hit. The bat reads the echo and knows the distance, size and shape of the object. ~ T Burnam, "More Misinformation"

Syllacrostics ...

A retired husband is often a wife's full-time job. ~ E Harris

Great thoughts, like great deeds, need no trumpet. ~ Bailey

Diets are mainly food for thought. ~ Wylie Jones

Word Games Puzzles ...

I eat my peas with honey.
I've done it all my life.
It makes the peas taste funny,
But it keeps them on the knife.

There once was a fly on the wall.
I wonder why it didn't fall ...

Because its feet stuck?
Or was it just luck?

Or does gravity miss things so small?

Fun! I have a handful of word puzzles I work each day (at www.allstarpuzzles.com). It was a sad day at work when they changed my internet access & I could no longer work them there.

Bug, you do word puzzles at work? I've been playing some bridge online and have been quite surprised to discover how many others are playing - for long stretches on end - who say they're "at work". :)

Have fun sharing these with your class, Steven!

Goldenrod - my job is mindnumbingly boring. Today, for example, I scanned something for my boss, sent an email to someone, and answered the phone once. In 8 hours. Mindnumbing! I went to the library at lunch & had read 3/4 of my book by the time it was time to go home.

BUT I get paid a very nice salary to sit on my behind all day & I'll wait until we get some of our bills paid down. Then I'll look for something more interesting - maybe I'll work at the local feed & seed.

What 'butt-numbing' (not to mention 'mind') work, Bug. Heavens to Betsy! How'd you manage to land a cushy job like that?? (Don't answer.) No wonder you do other things while you're at work. Doesn't really sound like the person you're working for needs someone except a 'body' to be there! Wish someone would pay ME to just sit around ... seriously!! However, I'd want one stipulaton. I'd like to do my sitting around at home. :)
