"Please hold for just a moment" ... ...

Have you ever received one of those phone calls???

I just did, and guess what? I disconnected the line. Guess what else? They haven't called back. I detest market researchers!!!!! (Their number is still on my incoming phone call screen! -- I may or may not try to call the number back later to see who the devil it was who was so rude as to not even announce themselves &/or the party that was placing the call. If it was the President, I am really sorry I did not "Hold".)

This is a really big bugaboo with me. If I place a call incorrectly/inadvertently, I ALWAYS identify myself & make a comment such as, "I'm sorry, I hit the wrong number" -- or, I'll leave a message (in case of a voice-mail answering server), stating the reason for my call. I never ... repeat, absolutely never hang up or leave some obscure message that might still leave the "callee" in doubt.

I expect the same treatment from those who happen to catch my number inadvertently. I expect that they will stay on the line long enough for me to try & assist them in reaching the party they were trying to reach in the first place. (Perhaps they simply hit a wrong digit. ... Perhaps they had mis-transcribed the number given to them. ... Perhaps the person they were trying to reach had intentionally given them an incorrect number, albeit mine.) Whatever the reason they reached me, I would like to try & assist them.

It's quite difficult -- indeed, nigh onto impossible -- to assist someone who hangs up on you.

About 3 months ago we got a call at about 2 am. The phone is RIGHT NEXT TO MY SIDE OF THE BED and it scared me to death, being that I was in a deep sleep. When I answered, the person hung up on me. Ticked me off....and I couldn't go back to sleep. So the next day I checked the caller i.d. for a phone number and called the person back to see who it was and what they/he/she wanted. The guy chewed ME out for bothering him. Sheesh...........

Tammy, I'm thinking I should try & place a return call between 2 and 2:30am ... However, that's probably not a good idea, because that might start a "Let's get each other out of a deep sleep" war.

By the way, I DID delete my comment on one of your posts that I said I would. It sure looks peculiar when one does it! I'm sorry. The only reason I did it was because I said I would, and I always try and finish what I start.

When I finish this comment, I will request a response via e-mail ... perhaps that way you will have my e-mail address. (?? -- I don't know, I'm new at this stuff.)

LOVED your bowling stories & pictures ... how in the world does one get such awful scores?! Looks like you guys were having just a ton of fun, tho.

My hours are sporadic, to say the least ... looks like you're up late, as well!

Such calls are incredibly annoying!! We get them frequently, I'm sorry to say.

Sometimes, they're telemarketers, and sometimes they're schoolmates of my daughter. I've been known to call back the latter and give them a lecture. (LOL!) The former, though, are like a plague...
